Spamdrain auto-renewal is ready for use!

Great news!
From now on, our users may choose recurrent payment as a method of Spamdrain subscription renewal.
Intrigued? Here are the details 🙂

Previously the only way to renew Spamdrain subscription was using manual procedure with several steps: go the account page –> choose the needed options to renew –> land on our payments systems page and renew your subscription manually. You had to repeat this action each time when your subscription was about to expire.

What has changed
The manual renewal method has not changed at all, but the new saving-time-method has been added.
Now you can choose the suitable payment method upon sign up or any time at your Account page, save the details and we will do the rest on a monthly or yearly basis.

Advantages
– Recurring payments are available for all customers.
– You choose the needed payment method once, save it and you are all set.
– You are notified by email each time when renewal is processed.
– No need to enter the same details each time when your subscription comes to an end.
– No need to remember that renewal date is coming.

Just in case, you can stop auto-renewal any time if you wish.

Feel free to check the new payment workflow here.

Find more details at our subscription and billing help desk section here.

2019 filtering statistics part 1

We have already passed the equator of 2019 year and heading to a bit colder part of the year. It’s good that our spamsters are not affected by weather and continue working hard regardless of the season. First half of 2019 did bring us lots of old spam waves and phishing messages and some new of course. However, if we look back into 2018 and compare results of the same period, we can see that the number of spam messages compared to valid ones overall is descending.

Chain letters, porn spam, money scams and email spoofing were the most popular new spam messages along with old school fraud and lottery winning ones. Looking back into statistics of 2018 spam filtering we can see that there were 170 M messages filtered during first half of last year and only 73 M (43%) of them were classified as valid messages.
Yes, that’s correct 97 M messages were blocked by our Spamsters which is 57% of the total number. A big amount of spam, you might think, but the good news is that garbage stays in your blocked list. Another visible trend compared to previous years is that the spam part is getting lower. This year first half brings us the following numbers:

Filtered: 181 M

Valid: 108 M (60%)

Spam: 73 M (40%)

As you can see this year numbers of all filtered messages are almost the same as the last year first half. However, valid messages beaten the spam ones – yay! According to our statistics we can see March is being “the most spamming month” while May brought us the biggest amount of messages to filter.

We can also see that starting from May till now the amount of spam messages is decreasing a bit. Probably due to high season of vacation not only for recipients of spam messages but for senders as well 🙂

Let’s wait a few months till December to see how this year charts will end up.

Thanks for reading and stay tuned!

Top 5 most dangerous attachment types

In this article we gathered 5 the most dangerous email attachment types. It’s a good thing they stay in the blocked list and not in your Inbox. Don’t know what’s a blocked list? Well, this means that you are not a Spamdrain user yet and you should definitely sign up here:

https://spamdrain.com

So what stays there, in the blocked list? The most common file is the .PDF one. Your favorite newsletter, guide for some device or any other .pdf file you would like to download from the email message could be harmful to your device. Make sure the message containing the file is from the trusted source and double check before downloading it.

The other one is a .ZIP file, the easiest way to pack a lot of files into one archive. Of course, one of the unpacked files could be from the bad guy, waiting for you to click on it. By the way, not just the .ZIP extension could be harmful. There is .7Z well known archive extension that could also contain phishing or any other harmful files.

The next one is a Microsoft Office based file. The most popular are the .DOC or .XLSX extensions but it could also be any other Microsoft Office document based extension.

We won’t be telling you how the opened software installs virus applications or how it tracks as much sensitive data as possible. We do not want you to remove the message once you found one of the mentioned extensions file. The main point of the article is to warn you once you see the suspicious attachment. Once you discover something wrong – proceed with caution and double check each click.

The best way to secure yourself and your family is to refer to our recommendation from the beginning regarding sign up for Spamdrain. Our spamsters will do the rest.
